Day 12: Discovering Colonia

Today was rather uneventful for me. I woke up not feeling so well, so I chose to take the day off from diving, which meant of course, everyone else would have the best day of diving in Yap, which apparently they did. Instead, I spent my time with Mike & Linda Hannifin from Family Scuba Center in Midland, Texas. They also took the day off to let their bodies recoup.

After meeting Mark at breakfast, we joined up with Linda and walked to the market down the street to get some provisions to hold us over for the next couple of days. On the way back to Manta Ray Bay we stopped at the Yap Art Studio & Gallery. It is a lovely little store where you can find beautiful water colors and wood carvings; a great place to find souvenirs and gifts for those back home.

After dropping our things at the hotel, we headed back out to do some investigating of the local surroundings. We visited Trader Ridge which is another hotel with a colonial motif and lush landscaping. They also have a small dive shop operation. We also stopped by the Yap Visitors Bureau to see what information we could pick up. When we returned to the hotel, I took a short nap then went down to the dive shop to retrieve my gear to pack. Since Linda was enjoying herself at the Taro Leaf Spa in our hotel, Mark joined me on the Mnuw for some review in preparation for our exam. It was shortly after 4pm when we saw the gang return to the dock. Mark and I went down to greet them and hear about their adventures. Then we all went our separate ways back to our room so everyone could clean up for class.

When class was over, it was time for dinner on the Mnuw. We sat on the top deck and enjoyed the warm evening tropical breeze as we supped on our delicious food. Then it was time to retire. Rod and I bid everyone goodnight and returned to our room. Rod spent his time on the computer typing his blog and I reviewed my notes until neither one of us could keep our eyes open. We have one more day in paradise and then the journey home. GOOD NIGHT!
