FUN FIJI FACTS

In preparation for The Dive Shack's trip to Fiji in September, it has been requested of me that I help you learn a few Fijian translations and some fun facts.  We depart for LAX in 60 days, so let's get started.

One of the romantic islands of the South Pacific,
Taveuni, Fiji is located at the "unofficial" International Dateline
(16°S 180°).

Fiji is an archipelago consisting of 333 islands with pristine white sandy beaches, tropical lagoons and beautiful underwater soft corals.  Fiji's two main islands are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.  Viti Levu is the mainland on which Nadi (pronounced nandi), one of Fiji's major cities and home to the international airport, is located.

Fiji actually has three official languages: Fijian, Hindi & English, but English is widely spoken throughtout, so no worries.  Let's start today with a saying and a word:

English                Fijian (pronunciation)
Good Morning     Ni Sa Yadra (ni sah yan dra)
Hello                        Bula (mbula)

Vinaka & Ni Sa Moce!
(I will fill you in on those another day.)
