Five Pointers from a Pilot's Perspective

Travel on a Tuesday

Weekends are always the more popular time to travel. Even Fridays and Mondays. Travel traffic is generally lighter on Tuesdays and sometimes you can find lower airfares on a Tuesday.

Travel in the Morning

When your plans allow it, try to book early morning flights. Once again, travel traffic is generally lighter during this time. Also, delays are less likely due to bad weather and late connections.

Be Organized and Realistic

When boarding the plane have those items you are going to use during your flight easily accessible in your carry-on. Also, be realistic about what you are actually going to use. You don't need to pull out the laptop, the iPod, the latest novel and two magazines for a 45-minute flight.

Secure a Wing Seat

Pilots due their best to give us the smoothest flight possible, but if you know you are sensitive to turbulence, you might want to choose a seat assignment over the wings for a smoother ride just in case.

Pee Before You Leave

Isn't this something our mothers always asked us before we hopped in the car? Well, it holds true for boarding a plane, too. Whether you think you really have to go or not, it is generally a good idea to use the terminal restroom before boarding. You never know what conditions are going to be when you get in the air and when that pilot is going to turn of the seatbelt sign, so for your own comfort, pee before you leave the airport.
