Yesterday morning I did my first return dive to our cool waters. It was wierd to put all the gear and weight back on again. I got spoiled by diving in my shorty and cutting my weights in half, but LJ Shores chose to be nice to me with small surf and pretty good visibility. Rod and I dove with the Teixeira clan out to Vallecitos Point and then south to see the moray eel that has taken up residence in the wall. I had to quit after one dive because my left ear was telling me it needed a break from the pressure changes, but I enjoyed being home see the usual critters in my own backyard.
Later in the evening, Rod & I were at our local grocery store shopping for dinner. While we were standing in the checkout line, a young lady behind me said "excuse me". I thought she wanted to see something on the magazine rack, but it turns out what she was reading was my shirt. I was wearing my "I got hooked on Blue Corner, Palau" shirt I bought at Neco Marine. She, it turns out, is from Peleliu, an island in the southern portion of Palau. What a surprise for us all, to be standing in El Cajon and run into someone who actually knows where Palau is. I asked her how long she had been in the States. Turns out she has been here for six years serving in the Navy. It was a pleasure meeting such a polite, beautiful young lady and I wish her all the best.
Just goes to show you what a small world we live in.
